About SFJN
The pulse of the Bay Area's Jewish community.
San Francisco Jewish News (SFJN) is an independent, locally-focused newsroom covering the stories, people, and institutions that shape Jewish life in San Francisco, the Bay Area, and beyond.
Our Mission
We exist to keep the Bay Area Jewish community informed, connected, and engaged with the issues that matter most — locally, nationally, and in Israel.
Mainstream coverage of Jewish life in San Francisco is uneven and often missing entirely. SFJN closes that gap with focused daily reporting on synagogues and federations, civic policy, cultural institutions, food, real estate, and the founders and leaders shaping our region.
What We Stand For
Four principles guide every story we publish.
Local-first reporting
We cover the people, institutions, and stories that shape Jewish life in San Francisco and the Bay Area — from synagogues and JCCs to local politics, business, food, and culture.
Verified, sourced, never invented
Every article is grounded in reporting from reputable outlets and includes its sources. Drafts that cannot be independently verified are rejected before publication.
Honest about AI
Our newsroom is augmented by AI to surface and synthesize the day's news. Any image generated by AI is clearly labeled, and we publish only when sources can be cited.
Connected to Israel and the diaspora
We follow stories from Israel that matter to American Jews — politics, security, society, and the relationships that link our community across continents.
AI & Editorial Standards
SFJN uses AI tools to help our newsroom search the web, surface breaking developments, and draft initial reporting at scale. Every article goes through an automated fact-checking pass that independently re-verifies names, dates, dollar amounts, and quotes against reputable sources.
Articles that cannot be backed by at least three citations from trusted outlets are rejected before they ever reach the site. Cover images created by generative AI are tagged with a small AI badge so you always know what you're looking at.
